First Kilt Skate in Brampton ON

It’s only mid-February but in parts of Canada, Spring is already on the way. In Brampton Ontario’s Gage Park, the ice of the Outdoor Skating Recreation Trail contrasts with the grass as the snow banks recedes. On a day like this, a person can skate without fear of frostbite.

It’s warm enough that some don’t even bother to zip up their jackets.

Skaters take to the ice…

…flags unfurled.

On a Saturday afternoon, it is also a pleasant day for an impromptu market of things Scottish — including books and brochures.

You don’t need a kilt. You don’t need to be Scottish. Just wear a bit of Canada’s favourite colour: TARTAN!

And since the Canadian Chapter of the Clan Gregor Society helped organize the event, the distinctive MacGregor tartan is very much in evidence.

There are several variations of the MacGregor tartan, but red and black provide a coordinated event.

In fact, MacGregor tartan scarves are available participants for free, along with hot chocolate and doughnuts.

All in all, a great beginning for what is hoped to be an annual winter tradition in Brampton.
